Trousseau Gris

Trousseau Gris is a French variety of white wine grape. It is occasionally found in eastern France and was once widely grown in California under the name Gray Riesling. In cool climates it can produce fresh aromatic wines, but is rather dull in warmer regions. It needs gentle handling and careful winemaking to bring out its best.

It is a white mutation of the red Trousseau grape, better known as the port grape Bastardo.

2006 Sweet Caroline LH white
Russian River Valley

Made from Trousseau gris (aka Grey Riesling) grapes picked at 30Brix and finished at 6% sugar and 12.5 % alcohol--it is not the syrupy cloying style of many late harvest/ice wines, but is refreshingly light and crisp and great with fruit or creamy blue cheeses!

2005 Trousseau Gris
The Fanucchi Wood Road Vineyard, of Russian River

Typical Tasting Notes: Crisp, Clean, Flowery bouquet, FRESH PEACHES, honeysuckle, pear, melon & delicate spice and tropical fruit flavors make it a delightful compliment to a wide array of foods! Compare its “Nose” to Viognier or Marsanne, with a gentler spice than a dry Gewürztraminer and far, far, more fruit than the best Pinot Gris could hope for! After bottling it can take a few months for this wine to open up, some times not opening up near it’s best till the following fall. In the event you forget a hidden bottle in the back of your cool dark, secret storage place, we've recently discovered that it's natural effervescence can also allow a few years of safe aging!
