Sauvignon Blanc

The grape originated in France, in the regions of Bordeaux and the Loire Valley. Plantings in California, Australia, Chile and South Africa are also extensive, and Sauvignon Blanc is steadily increasing in popularity as white wine drinkers seek alternatives to Chardonnay. The grape can also be found in Italy and Eastern Europe.

Chameleon Cellars is changing colors and added our first white wine ever in 2006. The second version of the award-winning 2005 SB is every bit as good as its predecessor - maybe better !! Its lush fruit and lovely aromatics are totally in keeping with our philosophy that all wine should be redolent of the grape it represents and provide crisp and refreshing acidity of the palate.

This variety has long been prized for its ability to enhance a wide of variety of lighter foods, and our 2005 version is no exception. Grapes come from Mendocino, Lake and Sonoma Counties along with 7% Verdelho from Lodi. All stainless for fresh, clean highly aromatic wine with hints of mango and grapefruit will meld beautifully with a lightly grilled or sauteed snapper as well as a rosemary-infused roast chicken, goat cheese ravioli or coconut shrimp.

Our Sauvignon Blanc is very exotic and very much in the 'California style.' Fresh and fruity, it exhibits typical grapefruit and herb characteristics at its core. But the overall impression is more like a fruit cocktail on steroids! The Pinot Gris gives this blend some high-toned tropical notes, as well as a distinct, Bartlett pear flavor. Bone dry but not overly tart it will pair beautifully with simply prepared seafood and chicken dishes, and especially those accompanied by a fruit chutney. DELICIOUS!

As a grapevine, sauvignon blanc is pretty easy-going. It grows well without needing a lot of pampering and will produce a hearty yield if left to its own devices. But at Buttonwood, sauvignon blanc is nurtured, manicured and gardened to produce a carefully calculated crop of glorious golden clusters. Sauvignon Blanc is after all, Buttowood's signature wine and we rest our reputation on this time-honored grape. The 2006 Buttonwood Sauvignon Blanc is crisp, refreshing and focused. A pale straw color glistens in the glass and encourages a swirl that results in a somewhat exotic bouquet of kiwi, guava and lemon-lime jumping from the glass. On the palate, the wine is light and lively, with honeydew melon, lemon zest and a hint of fennel complemented by the creamy, round textural components from the semillon.
