Dessert Wine

Dessert wines (or pudding wines) are sweet wines typically served with dessert, such as Sauternes and Tokaji Aszú. Despite the name, they are often best appreciated alone, or with some simple fruit, bakery sweets or foie gras.

2007 Castello di Borghese Allegra Dessert Wine
Estate bottled at Long Island's first and finest

Upon harvest the grapes were frozen to concentrate their natural sugars and juice, and then pressed while frozen to yield a juice of 36.2 Brix. Bright and reflective yellow-golden color. Lively nose of oranges, baked pineapple, passion fruit, meyer lemon, pears, and honey. A very well-balanced palate with generous but fluid sweetness and a racy acidity. Will age very well.

Solera Cream Sherry

Since 1978 Mount Palomar has produced handcrafted sherry wines in our outdoor aging solera. This is a forgotten winemaking method in California that harkens back to an earlier era. Using the classic Palomino variety and patient aging of at least three years under the sun creates rich, almond caramel and hazelnut flavors and a long smooth finish.

Many people enjoy this Sherry as a simple aperitif or with shortbread cookies or roasted almonds, but it is also a good match for Baklava and similar desserts.

2006 Orange Muscat

All of the Muscat varieties have a very distinctive floral aroma. Orange Muscat is no exception in this case the aroma of Seville oranges predominates. To me this wine is reminiscent of orange marmalade on hot cinnamon rolls. Being a dessert wine this wine is sweet, but not cloyingly so.

Chaucer's Cellers Mead

This wine is produced utilizing fresh honey without the addition of artificial flavorings, concentrates or artificial colorings. Even though greater production difficulties ensue because pure, raw honey is used for fermentation, the intensity of flavor generated through this technique is worth the effort. Although this wine exhibits richness similar to a fine liqueur, this dessert-style beverage is not fortified and contains only 11% alcohol. Hence, this wine should be consumed shortly after purchase to enjoy its natural and rich flavor.

Chaucer's Cellers Olallieberry Wine

"Olallie" is a word for berry that was used the Native Americans of the Pacific Northwest. An olallieberry is a hybrid cross of a loganberry and a youngberry which are both crosses themselves (loganberry = raspberry X blackberry; youngberry = blackberry X Texas dewberry). Because the olallieberry has blackberry forbearers on both sides of its parentage, it is not surprising that it exhibits many of the same flavor characteristics. However, olallieberries are much larger in size and generally are sweeter than blackberries grown under the same conditions. Although this wine exhibits richness similar to a fine liqueur, this specialty dessert-style beverage is not fortified and contains only 10.5% alcohol. Hence, this wine should be consumed shortly after purchase to enjoy its natural and rich fruit flavor. Also, it is recommended to refrigerate this delicate product after opening.

2005 LMR Cabernet Sauvignon Grappa
Rutherford

In 2005, a portion of LMR’s mountain cabernet sauvignon pomace was delivered to highly regarded St. George Spirits in Alameda to be distilled into grappa. With juice still in the skins, this grappa was made using St. George Spirits’ steam jacketed small copper pot stills under the watchful eye of seasoned distiller Dave Smith. The pomace was distilled just long enough to derive the classic LMR red berry and black cherry characters. ****Only available for shipment in California****

Beautifully crystal clear. Aromas of green apple, bell peppers and classic LMR black cherry. Flavors are lush and earthy with nutmeg and clove. Finishes cleanly with the verdant essence of a spring morning after a night of rain. -Dave Smith
